From Badminton Aspirations to Modeling and Acting

Deepika wanted to be a badminton player like her dad until the 10th grade. She competed in many national-level competitions. But later, she decided to become a model and an actress.


Deepika Padukone’s Early Career in Modeling

Deepika Padukone began her career with a TV commercial for Liril soap and worked with various brands. She debuted on the runway in 2005 for designer Suneet Varma at Lakme Fashion Week. She was awarded Model of the Year at the Kingfisher Fashion Awards. Padukone’s fame grew with her appearance in the 2006 Kingfisher Calendar print campaign, and designer Wendell Rodricks praised her beauty. Rodricks discovered her in a Ganjam jewelry class and signed her with the Matrix talent agency. At 21, Padukone moved to Mumbai and stayed with her aunt. In 2006, she featured in the music video for Himesh Reshammiya’s song “Naam Hai Tera” in the album Aap Ka Surroor.

Deepika  Padukone’s Debut film

Deepika Padukone started her film journey with a Kannada-language movie called “Aishwarya” in 2006, where she played the lead role. Her first Hindi film was “Om Shanti Om” in 2007, directed by Farah Khan. In this movie, she had two different roles and acted alongside Shah Rukh Khan. She did so well that she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for her performance.
